Prayers : for Nation, Church, Candidates and others

1.    PRAYERS

            i.          PRAYER FOR THE NATION
            O God, who has graciously preserved our nation through the years and had led us in wondrous ways: grant that we may be worthy of our high calling.  Purge out from among us the sins that dishonour Thee. Give us up, a holy people, to thy praise and honour, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

            Almighty God, Who has called our nation to a place of trust and responsibility among the nations of the world: we humbly thank thee for all the ways in which Thou hast blessed and guided us into this day.  We confess before Thee with shame, all that has been evil in our history and, all that makes us unworthy to be called Christian people.

            ii.         PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH
            Remember, O Lord Thy Church, to deliver it from all evil and to make it perfect in Thy love. Enlarge its borders through the preaching of the everlasting gospel, and gather the faithful from all the ends of the earth into the kingdom which Thou hast prepared, for Thine is the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

            O God of unchangeable power and eternal light, look favourably upon thy whole Church and make it the instrument of Thy saving purpose for the world; that the life of mankind, redeemed in Christ may everywhere be renewed, and all things may return into unity through Him from whom they took their origin, even the same Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

            iii.        PRAYER FOR THE CANDIDATES
            O Lord our God, we commend to Thee those who are about to seek Thy grace and to renew their vows in confirmation.  Let Thy Fatherly hand we beseech Thee, Ever be over them; let thy Holy Spirit ever be over them; daily increase in them thy manifold gift of grace; and that they may continue to be Thine for ever through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

            Grant, O Lord, that all who shall kneel before Thee to receive Thy blessing in the laying-on of hands may be strengthened with the Holy Spirit the Comforter, and daily increase in Thy Holy Spirit more and more until they come unto thy everlasting kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

            iv.        PRAYER FOR OTHERS
            Almighty God, Who has taught us to make prayers and intercession for all men; We pray for ministers of religion, and all who guide the thoughts of the people; for Artisans, Authors, Musician, Health Officers, Educationists, Journalists and all Politicians; that our common life may be crowned with thy truth and love. Guard the health of the people, and tend the sick; that they may follow in the footsteps of Christ, the great physicians;

            For all on whose labour we defend for the necessities of life for those who carry on the commerce of the world, that they may seek no private gain which hinder the good of all for parents and children that purity, love and honour may dwell in our homes, and duty and affection may be bond of our family life;

            For all who dwell nigh unto death that they may know Thy presence with them through the valley of the shadow, and may wake to behold Thy face; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
