Scripture Passage : Ecclesiastes 3 : 1-13

SCRIPTURE PASSAGE  -    eCCLESIASTES 3:1-13

1.        For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2.        A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3.        A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4.        A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5.        A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6.        A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7.        A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8.        A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
9.        What gain has the worker from his toil?
10.     I have seen the business that God has given to the sons of men to be busy with.
11.     He has made everything beautiful in its time; also he has put eternity into man's mind, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.
12.     I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live;
13.     Also that it is God's gift to man that every one should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil.

Responsive Psalm : Psalm 90

RESPONSIVE PSALM  -  Psalm  90

1.      Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2.      Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.
3.      Thou turnest man back to the dust, and sayest, "Turn back, O children of men!"
4.      For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.
5.      Thou dost sweep men away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning:
6.      In the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.
7.      For we are consumed by thy anger; by thy wrath we are overwhelmed.
8.      Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9.      For all our days pass away under thy wrath, our years come to an end like a sigh.
10.    The years of our life are threescore and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11.    Who considers the power of thy anger, and thy wrath according to the fear of thee?
12.    So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13.    Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on thy servants!
14.    Satisfy us in the morning with thy steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15.    Make us glad as many days as thou hast afflicted us, and as many years as we have seen evil.
16.    Let thy work be manifest to thy servants, and thy glorious power to their children.
17.    Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish thou the work of our hands upon us, yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

Purpose of Gathering : Prayers

PURPOSE OF GATHERING

We meet in this solemn moment to worship God; to give thanks for the life of our sister and mother, SIS. GRACE AYOOLA AJANI-ROBERTS and to commend her into the hands of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father.  In the presence of death, Christ offers us sure ground for hope and confidence, and even joy, because He shared our human life and death; He was raised again triumphantly and lives for evermore.  In Him, His people find eternal life.  Let us then in humble trust, hear the words of the Holy Scripture, that from them we may draw comfort and strength.

3.      PRAYERS (Let us pray)

Eternal God, the Lord of life, the conqueror of death, our help in every time of trouble, who does not willingly grieve or afflict the children of men; comfort us who mourn, and give us grace in the presence of death, to worship You, that we may have sure hope of eternal life and be able to put our whole trust in Your goodness and mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Our Heavenly Father, whose love is everlasting, help us now to turn to You with reverent and submissive hearts that through the steadfastness and encouragement that the Scripture brings, we may hope and be lifted above our distress into the light and peace of your presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Almighty God, our refuge and strength, You have given us a High Priest who understands our human weakness.  Help us therefore to trust in him and with confidence come to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace in time of need, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Meeting the Body at the Entrance : Sentences

MEETING THE BODY AT THE ENTRANCE
       SENTENCES WITH PROCESSIONAL HYMN  216

We brought nothing into this world and it is certain we shall depart this world with nothing; the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Hymn EMHB 216  -    YMHB  126

1.            Jesus lives! thy terrors now
            Can, O death, no more appal us;
            Jesus lives! by this we know
            Thou, O grave, canst not enthrall us.
Hallelujah!

1.            Jesu ye !- titi aiye
Eru iku ko ko ba ni mo;
Jesu ye !- nitorina
Isa oku ko n’ ipa mo.
Alleluya.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.  God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

2.         Jesus lives! to Him the throne
                        High o’er heaven and earth is given;
We may go where He is gone,
                        Live and reign with Him in heaven.
Hallelujah!

2.         Jesu ye !-gbogbo ‘joba
L’ orun, li aiye, di Tire;
Awa na si le tele;
K’ a joba pelu Re lorun.
Alleluya.

The hour is coming and now is when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.  I am the good shepherd.  My sheep hear my voice and I know them and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.

3.         Jesus lives! for us He died;
            Hence may we, to Jesus living,
            Pure in heart and act abide,
            Praise to Him and glory giving.
Hallelujah!

3.         Jesu ye !- fun wa l’ O ku;
E jeki a ma se Tire,
K’ a fi okan funfun sin,
K’ af’ iyin at’ ogo fun U.
Alleluya.

Because, I live, you will live also in the world you have tribulation, but be of  good cheer, I have overcome the world.

4.         Jesus lives! our hearts know well
                        Nought from us His love shall server;
Life, nor death, nor powers of hell,
            Part us now from Christ for ever.
Hallelujah!

4.         Jesu ye !- ko s’ ohun kan
T’ o le pa ‘na ‘ fe Re si wa;
Iye on iku pelu,
Ko le ya wa lodo Kristi.
Alleluya.

If we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord,  so then whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s, for to this end Christ died and lived again; that He might be Lord both of the dead and the living.  Our Saviour Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light, through the gospel.

5.         Jesus lives! henceforth is death
            Entrance-gate of life immortal;
            This shall calm our trembling breath
            When we pass its gloomy portal.
Hallelujah!

5.         Jesu ye’ – lat’ oni lo
Iku je ona si iye;
Eyi y’ o je ‘tunu wa
‘Gbat’ akoko iku ba de.
Alleluya.
