Fecilitation by Wesley Guild Chairman - Evang. Femi Caulcrick
FECILITATION TO THE WESLEY GUILD,
WESLEY CATHEDRAL OLOWOGBOWO ON THE CELEBRATION OF
95TH ANNIVERSARY/CAROLS AND NINE LESSONS
Dear admirable Guilders, it is my great pleasure to warmly congratulate you on the occasion of the 95th Landmark Anniversary Celebration of the Wesley Guild.
Looking back at the pillars and guiding principles of the Wesley Guild in the four Cs: Consecration, Comradeship, Culture and Christian Service, we can with a heart of thanksgiving raise our Ebenezer to God alone for His grace in seeing us through in our collective efforts to move forward in our committed Service to God and humanity.
I must salute Past Presidents, VP Devotionals and Past Chairman Devotional, Guilder Dame Adetope Tychus KJW, the Executive and Members in general (both home and in Diaspora) for keeping the appreciable Wesley Guild standard and focus through the years.
I salute the support and consistency of all members and especially the President, Guilder Very Rev. Adesola Kuyebi and most especially the elderly Guilders, who have not only regularly attended meetings, but have meaningfully contributed to the growth and standard tradition of the Wesley Guild in their God endowed wisdom in the Holy Spirit.
It is indeed a peculiar time to felicitate at the Yuletide Christmas season and so do congratulate the 2024 Harvest Committee duly anchored by the Ladies Progressive Union and the entire Church families both home and abroad. May God Almighty grant us the joy and peace of the season as we look forward to a wonderful and glorious year 2025, if Jesus tarries.
May we all remain watchful, keeping our garments unstained and waiting patiently for our Saviour’s return as we remain occupied in the Master’s Service.
Have a lovely Yuletide Season.
One Heart! One Way!!
In His Service,
Guilder Evang. Femi Caulcrick
Chairman Devotional, Wesley Guild
Wesley Cathedral Olowogbowo.
Recessional Hymn EMHB 313 - To God be the Glory
35. RECESSIONAL HYMN EMHB 313 (TO GOD BE THE GLORY)
1. To God be the glory! Great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son;
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the Life gate that all may go in.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son:
And give Him the glory! Great things He hath done!
2. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
3. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.
Hymn : A charge to keep I have
A CHARGE TO KEEP I HAVE
1. A Charge to keep I have
A God to glorify
A never-dying soul to save
And fit it for the sky.
2. To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfil,
O may it all my powers engage,
To do my Master's will.
3. Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live
And O Thy servant, Lord prepare
A strict account to give!
4. Help me to watch and pray
And on Thyself rely,
Assured, if I my trust betray
I shall for ever die.
Amen.
Song : God bless the Wesley Guild
(a) SING : GOD BLESS THE WESLEY GUILD
(Members of the Wesley Guild will proceed to the Altar)
1. God bless the Wesley Guild
Endow her with thy love,
Guild her aright,
Thy peace send forth to her
That she may do thy will
And let her watchword be
One heart! One way!
2. What shall our greeting be
Sign of our unity?
Jesus is Lord!
May we no more defend
Barriers he died to end
Give me your hand, my friend
One Church, One Lord.
3. Oh Lord, of Heaven and Earth
To thee we now commend
For thy wisdom
The Head of Wesley Guild
To guide us all aright
That his watchword may be
One heart! One way!
4. We children of great God
Others to us they look
For examples
Help us that we may lead
No one of them astray
Simple and humble we
One heart! One way!
5. Help us to do our best
In thy vineyard on earth
To help the sick
And all who need our aid
Until we meet above
Our watchword still may be
One heart! One way!
6. Guilders arise and work
The Church for you doth wait
Her strength is faint
Let all thy goodness see
Thy footsteps shall they tread
And sing in Unison
One heart! One way!
(b) RECITE : WESLEY GUILD’S AFFIRMATION WITH GUILDERS RESPONSE
The Guild stands for CONSECRATION of all that we have and are, to the Lord Jesus Christ whose name we proudly bear.
Response: Therefore, God helping me, as a Guilder I dedicate my life to Jesus Christ my Lord.
The Guild stands for CHRISTIAN SERVICE in doing God's will and helping to bring in His kingdom.
Response: Therefore, God helping me, as a Guilder I offer Him the service of my life, counting it a privilege so to do.
The Guild stands for CULTURE for the development of our God-given talents so that we continually grow in the knowledge of goodness, beauty and truth.
Response: Therefore, God helping me, as a Guilder I seek wider understanding of the wonders of God's universe.
The Guild stands for COMRADESHIP with all people, especially those who acknowledge their place in the Family of Christ's Church.
Response: Therefore, God helping me, as a Guilder I will meet my responsibilities to the Church and the Community.
GUILDER RESPONSE (Tune: EMHB 777)
One Heart, One Way, afresh our fealty swearing,
For strength to keep our vows O Lord we pray,
Thy badge upon our lives for ever wearing,
Filled with thy love our heart Thy will our way.
Hymn EMHB 832 For all the saints
EMHB 832
1. For all the saints who from their labours rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be for ever blest.
Alleluia!
2. Thou wast their Rock, their fortress, and their Might;
Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight;
Thou in the darkness drear their one true Light.
Alleluia!
3. O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold!
Alleluia!
4. O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle; they in glory shine,
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
Alleluia!
5. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia!
Hymn EMHB 143 Good Christian Men Rejoice
22. HYMN EMHB 143 (GOOD CHRISTIAN MEN REJOICDE) –SEED OF FAITH
1. Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Give ye heed to what we say,
Jesus Christ is born today:
Ox and ass before him bow,
And he is in the manger now,
Christ is born today,
Christ is born today!
2. Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Now ye hear of endless bliss,
Jesus Christ was born for this:
He hath opened heaven's door,
And man is blest for evermore.
Christ was born for this,
Christ was born for this!
3. Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave,
Jesus Christ was born to save,
Calls you one and calls you all,
To gain his everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save,
Christ was born to save!

Song : O Holy Night
19. SONG : O HOLY NIGHT !
1. O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth,
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appear’d and the soul felt its worth,
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born;
O night divine, O night, O night divine.
2. Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand,
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from the Orient land,
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our need, to our weaknesses no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
3. Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
Hymn EMHB 129 YMHB 80 While shepherds watched Bi awon olus'-agutan
17. HYMN EMHB 129 YMHB 80
1. While shepherds watched their flocks by night
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone around.
2. Fear not! Said he, for mighty dread,
Had seized their troubled mind,
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind.
3. To you, in David's town this day
Is born, of David's line,
A Saviour, who is Christ the Lord;
And this shall be the sign.
4. The heavenly Babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swaddling bands
And in a manger laid.
5. Thus spake the Seraph, and forth with,
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God and thus
Addressed their joyful song.
6. All glory be to God on high
And to the earth be peace
Good will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease.
Amen.

Hymn EMHB 120 YMHB 76 - Christian Awake Kristian eji
15. HYMN EMHB 120 YMHB 76 (CHRISTIAN AWAKE SALUTE THE HAPPY MORN)
1. Christians, awake, salute the happy morn,
Whereon the Saviour of the world was born;
Rise to adore the mystery of love,
Which hosts of angels chanted from above;
With them the joyful tidings first begun
Of God incarnate and the Virgin's Son.
2. Then to the watchful shepherds it was told,
Who heard the angelic herald's voice : Behold,
I bring good tidings of a Saviour's birth
To you and all the nations upon earth;
This day hath God fulfilled His promised word,
This day is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord.
3. He spake: and straightway the celestial choir
In hymns of joy, unknown before, conspire.
The praises of redeeming love they sang,
And heaven's whole orb with hallelujahs rang;
God's highest glory was their anthem still,
Peace upon earth, and unto men good-will.
4. To Bethlehem straight the enlightened shepherds ran,
To see the wonder God had wrought for man:
Then to their flocks, still praising God, return,
And their glad hearts with holy rapture burn;
Amazed, the wondrous tidings they proclaim,
The first apostles of His infant fame.
5. O may we keep and ponder in our mind
God's wondrous love in saving lost mankind;
Trace we the Babe, who hath retrieved our loss,
From the poor manger to the bitter Cross;
Tread in His steps, assisted by His grace,
Till man's first heavenly state again takes place.
6. Then may we hope, the angelic hosts among,
To sing, redeemed, a glad triuphal song;
He that was born upon this joyful day
Around us all His glory shall display;
Saved by His love, incessant we shall sing
Eternal praise to heaven's almighty King.

Hymn EMHB 125 - O Little Town of Bethlehem
11. HYMN EMHB 125 (O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM)
1. O Little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by:
Yet in the dark street shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.
2. O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King;
And peace to men on earth;
For Christ is born of Mary;
And gathered all above.
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
3. How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven
No ear may hear His coming;
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still
The dear Christ enters in.
4. O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray,
Cast out our sin, and enter in;
Be born in us to-day.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Immanuel.
Amen.
Hymn EMHB 859 - Once in Royal David's City
9. HYMN EMHB 859 (ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY)
1. Once in royal David’s city,
Stood a lowly cattle shed
Where a mother laid her baby
In a manger for his bed
Mary was that mother mild;
Jesus Christ her little child.
2. He came down to earth from heaven,
Who is God and Lord of all,
And his shelter was a stable;
And his cradle was a stall;
With the poor and mean and lowly
Lived on earth our Saviour holy.
3. And through all his wondrous childhood
He would honour and obey,
Love and watch the lowly maiden
In whose gentle arms he lay;
Christian children all must be,
Mild, obedient, good as He.
4. For He is our children’s pattern,
Day by day like us he grew,
He was little, weak, and helpless
Tears and smiles like us he knew;
And he feeleth for our sadness
And he shareth in our gladness.
5. And our eyes at last shall see him,
Through his own redeeming love,
For that child so dear and gentle
Is our Lord in heaven above,
And he leads his children on
To the place where he is gone.
Hymn EMHB 130 - It came upon the midnight clear
7. HYMN EMHB 130 (IT CAME UPON THE MIDNIGHT CLEAR)
1. It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold:
Peace on the earth, good-will to men,
From heaven's all-gracious King!
The world in solemn stillness lay
To heart the angels sing.
2. Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled;
And still their heavenly music floats
O'er all the weary world;
Above its sad and lowly plains
They bend on hovering wing,
And ever o'er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.
3. But with the woes of sin and strife
The world has suffered long:
Beneath the angel strain have rolled
Two thousand years of wrong:
And man, at war with man, bears not
The love song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing.
4. And ye, beneath life's crushing load
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow-
Look now! For glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing:
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing.
5. For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophet bards foretold,
When with the ever-circling years
Comes round the age of gold,
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendours fling,
And the whole world give back the song
Which now the angels sing.
Hymn EMHB 257 YMHB 148 - O come, o come, Immanuel Sunm' odo wa, Immanuel
5. HYMN EMHB 257 YMHB 148 (O COME, O COME IMMANUEL)
1. O come, o come, Immanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
2. O come, o come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,
In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud, and majesty, and awe.
3. O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o’er the grave.
4. O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
5. O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

Opening Hymn 131 - The First Nowell
3. OPENING HYMN EMHB 131 (THE FIRST NOEL)
1. The first Nowell the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay, keeping their sheep
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell,
Born is the King of Israel !
2. They looked up and saw a star,
Shining in the east, beyond them far;
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
3. And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came from country far
To seek for a king was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
4. This star drew nigh to the north-west;
O’er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both stop and stay
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
5. Then entered in those wise men three,
Full rev’ rently upon their knee,
And offered there in his presence
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
6. Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heav’nly Lord,
That hath made heav’n and earth of naught,
And with his blood mankind hath bought.
