7. BIOGRAPHY OF LATE MRS. VICTORIA OLAMIDE
WILLIAMS
Victoria
Olamide Williams was born in Lagos on 6th September
1941, the third child of late Mr. Titus Olusanya Taylor and late Mrs. Sarah
Adesola Taylor (nee King of Kakawa, in Tinubu Area, Lagos). She started her
primary education at Christ Church Cathedral School Lagos and then proceded to
Queen’s College, Yaba for her secondary education. Among her peers at Queen’s
College are Mrs. Adefemi Taire, former Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Stella
Akinsemoyin, Mrs. Beatrice Adekunle and host of other renowned class mates in
different professions.
After leaving
secondary school, she worked briefly at the Drawing Office of Federal Ministry
of Works and Housing, Racecourse Lagos and later proceded to United Kingdom to
study Secretarial Practice at Cripplegate Secretarial College, London where she
obtained her Diploma in 1965. She joined British Civil Service and later got
married to Mr. Olajide Williams on 14th August 1965 in an elaborate
wedding which took place at Jubilee Methodist Church Telford, Shropshire in the
Midlands of United Kingdom. They have previously met at Wesley Cathedral,
Olowogbowo Lagos during different church activities before their departures
abroad where they reunited.
Victoria, as she
was fondly called, returned to Nigeria in 1969 together with her husband and
she started her career as a Secretary at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) the
same year, working in most of the academic departments through to the Senate
office and rose to the peak of her career as Manager in charge of Moremi Hall,
where she retired meritoriously in 2001 having attained the mandatory age of 60
years.
Victoria
Olamide Williams lived a fulfilled life working for the upliftment of
humanity. At various times, she was Chairman, Parents and Teachers Association
Ajao Estate Primary School; Member, Police Community Relations Committee, Ajao
Estate; Financial Secretary, Ajao Estate Landlords and Residents Association.
She demonstrated the skills needed to perform excellently in her assigned
duties.
In Church activities,
she belonged to different Societies of Wesley Cathedral Olowogbowo, Lagos
namely, the Choir, Ladies Progressive Union, Wesley Guild and Little Stars,
where she was nurtured while growing to adolescent.
As a Class Leader,
she contributed meaningfully to the progress of the Church until her demise on
13th August 2017, the eve of her 52nd Wedding
Anniversary.
She was loved by
friends and well-wishers. In her leisure, she loved travelling extensively with
her husband to Europe and U.S.A. at different times. She is survived by her
Husband, Children, (Ronke Tobi and Tunji Williams), many Grandchildren,
brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and cousins.
May her gentle soul
rest in perfect peace. Amen
